April 28, Drone Technology and Regulations Workshop

Goal:  To provide an overview of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) technology, regulations and best practices to University of California, Berkeley, and Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) affiliates.

Workshop ContentThis workshop is designed for participants with little to no experience in UAS technology, who are interested exploring practical applications of UAS for a variety of interests.  Following a brief lecture on drone technology, regulations, and considerations for flight planning, deploying your drone and processing imagery, we will demo a popular UAS platform. To conclude the workshop, you will follow a brief hands-on exercise for processing and creating useful maps from your imagery, before discussing a wide range of potential scientific and management oriented applications of UAS that may unfold in the near future.


This course content is the result of a collaborative effort between the UC ANR IGIS Statewide Program,, the UC Berkeley, Geospatial Innovation Facility (GIF),, and the UC Merced, Mechatronics, Embedded Systems and Automation (MESA) Lab,  

Audience: UC academics, staff, students, and UC Agriculture and Natural Resources affiliates who are interested in monitoring land holding and/or other regional features of interest.
