GPS, Spatial Data Management, and Consultation Workshop
Goal: Provide an overview and hands-on experience with collecting and managing spatial data using modern GPS and mobile data collection applications for mapping agriculture and natural resources.
Workshop Content: This workshop will offer training and consultation with hand-held GPS receivers, SmartPhone technologies and GIS applications, and is designed for participants with little to no experience. During an introductory lecture, mobile GPS apps for collecting location and field observations will be presented. Participants will then see how to use common computer software applications to view, manage and conduct basic spatial analysis and visualization using common types of spatial data.
Sample data sets will be provided during the workshop, but please also feel free to bring your own project data if you would prefer to use this during exercise/consultation period of the training. After this workshop you should be able to collect points and tracks using low priced GPS units and SmartPhones, and know how to conveniently share this data with others in a meaningful way.
This course content is the result of a collaborative effort between UC ANR IGIS Statewide Program, http://igis.ucanr.edu, and the UC Berkeley, Geospatial Innovation Facility (GIF), http://gif.berkeley.edu/
