Completed Service Requests

Research plot design and setup at Sierra Foothill Research and Extension Center

Client(s): Dr. Jeremy James and SRA Nikolai Schweitzer

Request: Using GIS and GPS create representations of existing pastures in GIS and split these pastures into equal parts for use in an upcoming research project.

Outcome: IGIS helped the clients design and implement the plots for an upcoming research project at the UC ANR Sierra Foothill Research and Extension Center (SFREC). We assisted the clients with the rental of the Trimble Global Position System (GPS) equipment from the GIF Lab at UC Berkeley. The gps unit was used to geo-locate existing pastures and to mark new plot boundaries after the analysis. We gps’ed existing pastures and created GIS representations of the study pastures. We then turned these study pastures into a parcel fabric using ArcGIS software from Esri. After we had the pastures converted to parcel fabrics we were able to easily split the pastures into equal sized areas.
