Goal: The goal of this workshop is to introduce you to using Python and Jupyter Notebooks within ArcGIS Pro software application and to get a start on basic scripting in GIS.
Workshop Content: This workshop is designed for participants with little to no GIS or coding experience. Following a brief presentation, the workshop will include an interactive exercise that will have you working on an operation with the GUI, then the same exercise using Python within ArcGIS Pro. This exercise will conclude with you being able to begin to program GIS operations within ArcGIS Pro. The following are some of the main tasks you can look forward to completing:
- Explore ArcGIS Pro’s user interface, including how to load and visualize data, and some common geoprocessing workflows
- Use the “history” function within the Pro analytics environment
- Open and use a Jupyter Notebook
- Analyze and explore spatial data with 3rd party packages (pandas)
- Interact with the Cal-Adapt API to find and analyze climate data
- UC Cooperative Extension
- UC students & faculty
- AIFS affiliates (including Davis, Berkeley, Cornell, U. Illinois, & USDA)
- Public and private professionals
When & Where: November 17th, 2023, from 1pm to 4:00pm (Pacific Standard Time)
This is a virtual workshop. You will receive a Zoom link via email prior to the training day.
Cost: This is a free workshop.
Requirements: To complete the hands-on exercises, participants will need a licensed copy of ArcGIS Pro. All UC students and faculty should have access to ArcGIS Pro through their campus. For others, information will be shared on how to obtain a temporary ArcGIS Pro license.
